Students had an AMAZING time on Thursday, June 1st exploring different habitats at the Norwell Science Center. They learned about animals and plants that live in a forest, vernal pool/swamp, pond, and field habitats. Our excursion was filled with many different hands-on experiences and activities that enriched our science curriculum. The knowledgeable and patient staff at the Center used a lot of the same vocabulary words that students have been taught in our classroom. If you haven't had a chance to talk with your child yet about their day, please ask them about it. THANKS to Mrs. Gilroy, Mrs. Chandler-Lee, Mrs. Landolfi, and Mrs. Donlan for volunteering as chaperones! Here are some photos from the event.

There has been the distinct sound of "peeping" coming from the Stem Lab next door to Room 26. As part of our study on animal habitats and life cycles, the First Grade Team brought chicks to Cedar School. Vice Principal Joel Barrett has graciously lent his expertise in this area and has been ensuring the chicks are safe on the weekends. After 21 days in an incubator, the chicks have hatched and are now in a "brooder." They are growing VERY quickly and students have had the opportunity to hold the chicks after their 3 week incubation periord. SO exciting!!!
Ms. Shannon Thompson read actor John Lithgow's book "Marsupial Sue" to Team D'Andrea during Inclusive Schools Week. The message in the book resonates with the theme of the week: respecting differences and taking pride in yourself. 💖
THANK YOU to the Hanover Parent Teacher Association for funding the in-house presentation of Curious Creatures! We have been studying animal habitats at school and this visit brought to life some of the ideas we have been discussing in class. This very memorable event is always a favorite of Cedar School First Graders.
Team D'Andrea rocked the "Steps for Vets" Walkathon in their red shirts on Thursday, May 11th. Funds raised through this event were donated to veterans injured in the line of duty. CJ Stewart, a representative for the Bonfire Warrior program, thanked students and staff for their generous contributions. Our thanks also go out to the Winnie Family for allowing Ben to share his grandfather's Purple Heart medal. 💜
On Tuesday, May 2nd Cedar School first graders welcomed State Champion football players from Hanover High School. The young men shared characteristics that made them successful while playing together as a team: respect, responsibility, being safe and perseverance. The students loved getting a close look at their championship rings and trying on their varsity letter jackets. Thanks to Mr. Landolfi, Lia's dad, for allowing her to bring in his coach's ring for Room 26 students to try on.

Our thanks go out to Narnie (Mason Pevarnek's grandmother) and her lovely assistants, Miss Rita, Miss Danielle, and Miss Elizabeth for visiting our classroom to read. Following the reading, students got to decorate their own birdhouse to provide a nesting area for spring birds. We ended the visit with an impromptu dance party. Narnie also provided students with personalized gift bags. THANK YOU for your time and generosity, ladies!!!
